Buc-ee’s Ends Trademark Dispute with Ohio Gas Station Chain Over Similar Cartoon Mascots
Buc-ee’s settles trademark lawsuit with Ohio gas station over cartoon mascot similarities. Legal battle highlights brand protection efforts.
POLICY WIRE — City, Country — Buc-ee’s has resolved a legal dispute with an Ohio-based gas station chain over concerns that its cartoon mascot resembled the company’s beaver logo.
The lawsuit, filed in February, accused Mickey’s Gas Station of infringing on Buc-ee’s trademark by using a moose mascot that faces right and features wide eyes and a smile, similar to Buc-ee’s beaver. The case was complicated by the fact that Mickey’s had previously operated under the name Mickey Mart, which Buc-ee’s claimed was too similar to its own branding.

Mickey’s responded by counter-suing in April, accusing Buc-ee’s of unfair litigation tactics and misusing its legal power. Both sides reached a confidential settlement on September 15, though it remains unclear if Mickey’s will need to modify its logo as part of the agreement.
