POLICY WIRE — Columbia, S.C. — South Carolina defensive end Dylan Stewart has been suspended indefinitely following an incident in which he punched an Alabama player during a college football game on Saturday night.

The incident occurred in the fourth quarter of the Gamecocks’ 49-18 loss to Alabama in Tuscaloosa. Stewart was called for a personal foul after striking tight end Josh Ford in the helmet. Head coach Shane Beamer announced the suspension on Sunday and said he would decide later this week whether and when Stewart would return to play.

Beamer emphasized that Stewart’s actions violated the program’s standards, stating, “It’s beyond the punch. The punch is unacceptable.” Stewart, who is projected as a first-round NFL draft pick, was already sidelined from Saturday’s home game against No. 24 Kentucky. He has recorded one tackle for loss and three quarterback hurries in two games this season.
