Despite local resistance to last year’s federal immigration agents’ operation, Trump insists the federal government is equipped to handle the crisis.

In a Truth Social post, Trump expressed deep concern over the city’s escalating violence, noting a recent surge in gun-related incidents. He emphasized the urgency for federal intervention, claiming that such action could rapidly reduce crime rates as seen in other cities.

Trump’s call to action follows a similar plea in June, where he promised swift and permanent solutions to Chicago’s crime issues. Governor Pritzker, however, has been critical of Trump’s approach, questioning his ability to effectively address the state’s security concerns.

Pritzker has previously sought assistance from federal agencies like the FBI, DEA, and ATF, focusing on combating guns, drugs, and gang-related activities. He urged Trump to provide practical help rather than making public appeals.

The president’s proposal to deploy federal troops, including the National Guard and ICE, has faced opposition from local leaders and the public. Last fall’s Operation Midway Blitz, aimed at undocumented migrants, resulted in significant clashes and was strongly condemned by Pritzker.
