POLICY WIRE — Washington, D.C. — A recent survey by the University of Massachusetts-Amherst indicates a rising trend of regret among those who voted for President Donald Trump in 2024.
The poll highlights a noticeable decline in Trump’s political support, with approximately 16 percent of his voters expressing they would not choose him again.
Alexander Theodoridis, co-director of the UMass poll, noted, There are no takebacks in electoral politics, but around 15 percent of Trump voters now indicate they might or would vote differently or not vote at all if given the chance.
The president’s approval rating has plummeted to 32 percent, reflecting a significant drop in confidence among his supporters.
Trump’s approval among self-identified Republicans has also decreased, falling from 89 percent in April 2025 to 75 percent currently.

The survey further revealed a surge in mixed feelings and regret among Trump voters, with 9 percent now having mixed emotions about their vote, up from 4 percent in April 2025.
Additionally, 6 percent of Trump voters now wish they hadn’t cast a ballot, a sharp increase from 1 percent previously.
The poll also showed a decline in strong approval for Trump’s handling of inflation and foreign policy, particularly regarding Iran.
