Trump-Praised Gas Chain Faces Lawsuit Over Alleged Sale of Unpaid Fuel

POLICY WIRE — Washington, D.C. — A gas station chain that received praise from Donald Trump for offering discounted fuel is now embroiled in legal controversy. A recent lawsuit alleges that the company sold gasoline that its supplier, Mansfield Oil Company, claims it never paid for.

The Freedom Fuel Network, which operates stations in the Northeast, came under the spotlight when Trump commended it on Truth Social for reducing prices ahead of the Fourth of July. The president highlighted the chain’s patriotic gesture, urging other retailers to follow suit.

However, Mansfield Oil has filed a complaint in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania, accusing KRSM, the firm supplying some Freedom Fuel stations, of acquiring 1.1 million gallons of fuel worth approximately $4 million from a Sunoco terminal without settling the invoice.

The suit further alleges that KRSM distributed a portion of this fuel to its Freedom Fuel Network stations, enabling them to sell it at prices lower than competitors. Mansfield Oil contends that KRSM’s ability to offer such low prices and attract attention was due to its failure to pay for the fuel.

KRSM has refuted the allegations, characterizing the case as an accounting dispute over misplaced fuel invoices by Mansfield Oil. The company declined to provide further comments on the ongoing litigation.

A White House official clarified that the Trump administration has not engaged with KRSM Inc or its owner. Efforts to obtain additional comments from KRSM, Freedom Fuel, and Mansfield Oil were unsuccessful.

The lawsuit comes amid rising gas prices in the U.S., which have climbed to a national average of $4.08 per gallon, according to the AAA index. The situation, coupled with ongoing hostilities with Iran, poses a significant challenge for Republican candidates in the upcoming midterm elections.
