POLICY WIRE — Indianapolis, USA — Indianapolis Colts player Keenan Allen was detained early Sunday on suspicion of driving while intoxicated, according to police reports.
Allen, aged 34, was apprehended in Indiana’s capital following a traffic stop around 1 a.m. local time. Officers from the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department observed indications of intoxication during the stop.
The traffic investigation began due to a parking violation, with Allen’s vehicle found parked in a no-parking zone in downtown Indianapolis. Upon interaction with Allen, who was driving, officers suspected intoxication and proceeded with further investigation.
He was arrested on preliminary charges of operating a vehicle while intoxicated (OVWI) and endangering a person. Authorities did not disclose additional details about the incident or if there were passengers in the car. A blood alcohol level of.08 or higher is required for a DWI charge.
The Marion County Prosecutor’s Office will determine the final charges against Allen. This arrest occurred less than two weeks after Allen joined the Colts, as he prepares for his 14th NFL season. He caught one pass during the team’s preseason game against the Detroit Lions on Saturday.
