POLICY WIRE — Mumbai, India — Authorities have charged the husband and mother-in-law of Twisha Sharma, a 23-year-old model and actor, in connection with her death. Sharma was found dead in May, just five months after her marriage.
The circumstances surrounding Sharma’s death remain under investigation. According to police reports, foul play is suspected. The charges against the husband and mother-in-law include abetment to suicide and culpable homicide not amounting to murder.
“The investigation is ongoing, and we are examining all angles to determine the exact cause of death,” a police official stated.
Sharma’s family has alleged that she was a victim of domestic violence. However, no conclusive evidence has been presented to the public as of yet. The case has drawn significant media attention in India, sparking conversations about domestic violence and the safety of women in marital homes.
The accused have been remanded in custody for further interrogation. Legal proceedings are expected to commence shortly.
