Alarming Rise in E-Scooter Accidents Involving Children Under 16

The surge in incidents has raised significant safety concerns among health professionals.

The hospitals, which serve as key trauma hubs, have noted a marked increase in the number of young patients requiring medical attention due to e-scooter-related injuries. Casualties range from minor cuts and bruises to more severe trauma, including fractures and head injuries.

“We are seeing a worrying trend in the number of young patients coming through our doors with e-scooter injuries,” said Dr. Jane Mitchell, a trauma surgeon at Manchester’s Royal Infirmary. “it is crucial that we address this issue to prevent further harm to children.”

The data, collected over the past year, indicates that children as young as nine are among those injured. The rise in accidents coincides with the growing popularity of e-scooters as a mode of transportation, particularly in urban areas.
