Yemen Houthi Camp Attack Death Toll Rises to 73 Following Missile Strike
Death toll climbs to 73 after Houthi ballistic missile strike hits military training camp in Yemen's Shabwa province, wounding over 200 recruits.
POLICY WIRE — Cairo, Egypt — The tragic death toll stemming from a Houthi missile strike on a government security forces training camp in southern Yemen has climbed to 73 fatalities, according to updates released by the provincial media office.
Monday’s assault targeted the al-Alam camp situated in Yemen’s Shabwa province, striking as fighting between the Iran-aligned Houthi movement and the internationally recognised government intensifies.
Authorities confirmed that all of the individuals killed in the early-week offensive were new military recruits ranging in age from 18 to 20 years old.
In addition to the confirmed fatalities, the devastating incident left more than 200 people wounded, while local officials reported that 14 individuals remained missing a day after the strike.
A senior Yemeni government official noted that the offensive involved three ballistic missiles launched by the Houthi movement, making it the deadliest single strike since fighting in the country began escalating three months ago.
The violent escalation follows the breakup of a previous ceasefire, compounding an ongoing conflict that has already claimed more than 150,000 lives and triggered a severe humanitarian crisis.
Government forces are actively pushing to recapture rebel-held territory near the strategic Bab Al Mandeb strait, raising widespread concerns that the latest massacre will spark further regional instability.
