POLICY WIRE — London, UK — Stefan Stern, co-author of “Myths of Management” and former director of the High Pay Centre, has called for a societal shift in the use of earphones in public spaces. Stern argues that the almost ubiquitous use of earphones is blocking out the ‘music of humanity’ and poses potential safety risks.
“Beyond the white noise lies a vibrant world of possibility, so take your headphones off and listen to your surroundings. It may even save your life,” Stern stated. He recounted an incident where he had to repeatedly ask someone to remove their earphones, highlighting the growing frustration with this trend.
Stern’s comments come as a call to action for individuals to be more aware of their surroundings. He believes that disconnecting from earphones can lead to increased safety and a richer experience of the world around us.
