UK Expands Travel Warning for Saudi Arabia Amid Houthi Attack Threats
The UK government has issued a nationwide travel advisory for Saudi Arabia, warning citizens against non-essential travel due to ongoing Houthi attacks.
POLICY WIRE — London, United Kingdom — The United Kingdom has officially updated its travel guidance, now advising British nationals against all but essential travel to the entirety of Saudi Arabia. This decision follows a surge in regional instability and the persistent threat of drone and missile strikes launched by Yemen’s Houthi movement.
The Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) implemented the expanded advisory on Friday, October 16, 2026. This update broadens previous restrictions that were initially limited to specific regions, now encompassing the whole of the kingdom.
Heightened security concerns prompted the government to act, particularly following a serious incident at King Khalid International Airport. Earlier guidance issued on October 12, 2026, had already signaled growing caution by restricting travel to major hubs including Jeddah, Dammam, and nearly all airports across the nation.
Despite the nationwide expansion, the FCDO maintains its specific, long-standing directive advising against all travel to areas within 10km of the border shared with Yemen. Officials continue to monitor the security landscape as regional tensions remain elevated.
