POLICY WIRE — Atlanta, United States — Two giant pandas have arrived at Zoo Atlanta after a flight from China, beginning a decade-long stay under an international agreement.

The animals, named Ping Ping and Fu Shuang, traveled aboard a Boeing 777 cargo plane called the ‘FedEx Panda Express’ from Chengdu, in southwestern China. Their arrival marks the start of a long-term partnership between Zoo Atlanta and the China Wildlife Conservation Association.

Zoo Atlanta President Raymond B. King called the event a historic moment for the city and state. The pandas will spend a month in quarantine before making their public debut. This is the third U.S. zoo to host giant pandas, joining San Diego and Washington, D.C.
