TSA Revives Gate Access for Non-Travelers at Select Airports

POLICY WIRE — Las Vegas, United States — The Transportation Security Administration has reintroduced a program that allows certain individuals without plane tickets to access secure areas of select U.S. airports, marking a return to a practice that was largely abandoned after the 9/11 attacks.

The initiative, called “Gateside by TSA PreCheck,” is designed for members of the TSA PreCheck program and enables them to pass through security checkpoints and enter airport gates. This feature aims to restore the experience of greeting and seeing off travelers, as well as enjoying amenities during layovers.

Eligible participants must apply online one to three days in advance and receive approval before visiting the airport. Once approved, they can use a TSA PreCheck lane with valid identification. The access is valid for one calendar day and can be reused on the same day. The program is currently available at 13 airports, with plans to expand in the coming months.
