POLICY WIRE — Washington, USA — President Trump’s scheduled departure for a trip to Texas on Wednesday encountered a significant delay after an inflatable emergency slide on the new Qatar-gifted Air Force One unexpectedly deployed while the aircraft was on the tarmac.
The incident occurred at Joint Base Andrews as the president was preparing to transition from Marine One to the primary jet for his flight to the RNC’s Midterm Convention in Dallas. Observers noted the slide had fully inflated and reached the ground before the president could board.
In response to the mechanical issue, the older version of Air Force One was brought in as a replacement to ensure the trip could proceed. Ground crews were observed deflating and removing the slide from the newer aircraft.

The new jet has experienced intermittent service since its introduction earlier this summer. Despite the Wednesday delay, the president is currently scheduled to utilize the new jet for an upcoming overseas trip to Ireland later this month.
