Trump’s Frustration Over Kennedy Center and Reflecting Pool Projects Unfolds on Truth Social

POLICY WIRE — Washington, D.C. — After a weekend at his Virginia golf club, President Donald Trump took to Truth Social to vent his frustrations over the ongoing issues with his renovation projects at the Kennedy Center and the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool.

Trump criticized the current state of the Kennedy Center, calling it an outdated and financially struggling institution that requires significant renovation and public relations efforts to regain its prestige. He expressed his anger towards the judge overseeing the case, accusing them of conflict of interest and hindering necessary renovations.

A federal judge is set to decide if the Trump-led Kennedy Center board breached court orders by approving an inscription claiming the building was renovated and restored by President Donald J. Trump, despite a previous ruling that renaming the venue without congressional approval is illegal.

Representative Joyce Beatty’s legal team contends that the new plan circumvents the May ruling and represents a serious challenge to legal norms, aimed at masking the financial turmoil caused by Trump’s management, which has led to artist cancellations and a decline in ticket sales.

The Trump administration maintains that the Kennedy Center is in urgent need of renovation, warning that without action, the building could face demolition in the future. Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick echoed this sentiment, stating that without proper restoration, the building would deteriorate to the point of unusable and eventual demolition.

Trump also addressed the issues surrounding the Reflecting Pool, blaming vandals for the damage to the grass near the World War II Monument and the Reflecting Pool itself. He shared an image showing “86 47” inscribed in the lawn and announced plans to replace the grass and complete repairs to the pool.

However, administration officials have acknowledged that the damage to the Reflecting Pool was likely due to poor construction, leading U.S. Attorney Jeanine Pirro to dismiss a case against a former Olympian, attributing the damage to contractor error.

This revelation angered Trump, who has publicly criticized D.C.’s top prosecutor for the decision. Pirro has since urged the judge to keep the door open for potential new charges against the contractor, David Hearn, who previously pleaded not guilty.

Vandals have indeed targeted the area, with “86 47” found in the grass in July, near the site of Trump’s Great American State Fair. Additionally, a woman was indicted for spray painting the WWII Memorial, facing felony charges and awaiting arraignment.
