Trump Shifts Funding for Promotional Ads to Super PAC Following Public Backlash
President Trump announces he will stop using taxpayer funds for promotional TV ads, shifting costs to his super PAC, MAGA, Inc. following intense criticism.
POLICY WIRE — Washington, D.C. — President Donald Trump announced he will cease using federal taxpayer money to finance television advertisements that highlight his administration. Moving forward, the president stated that these promotional spots will be funded through his super PAC, MAGA, Inc.
In a statement posted to Truth Social, the president defended the content of the commercials, describing them as a positive promotion for our Great U.S.A. He noted that while he views the ads as a rather standard thing to do, he has decided to pay for these patriotic ads himself and with money raised for his super PAC.
Data from the ad-tracking service AdImpact indicates that more than $10 million in taxpayer-funded advertisements have aired since September. These spots were financed through a $20 million contract utilizing Department of Homeland Security funds.
The commercials began appearing on Fox News last week and were also broadcast during various NFL and college football games. Each of the four distinct advertisements included a disclaimer stating they were Paid for by the U.S. government.

The decision follows significant bipartisan criticism, with lawmakers and advocacy groups arguing the spending potentially violates federal laws prohibiting the use of public funds for publicity or propaganda purposes. Lisa Gilbert, co-president of Public Citizen, condemned the administration for doubling down on the ads during high-viewership football games, calling the situation appalling and alarming.
Conversely, Federal Communications Commission chairman Brendan Carr had previously defended the expenditure. Carr characterized the new taxpayer-funded ads as a normal PSA and stated there was no cause for concern.
According to AdImpact, MAGA, Inc. began September with approximately $415 million in available funds. The organization and its affiliated super PACs have reportedly earmarked roughly $194 million for advertising efforts leading up to the November elections.
The White House did not immediately provide a response to requests for comment regarding the shift in funding strategy.
