Trump Asks Xi if He Wants to Buy US Arms, Ambassador Says
Trump asked China's Xi Jinping if he wants to buy US arms, according to ambassador David Perdue. The offer could reshape US-China relations.
POLICY WIRE — Washington, United States — President Donald Trump reportedly asked Chinese President Xi Jinping if he would be interested in purchasing U.S. arms during their recent meeting at the White House, according to the U.S. ambassador to China.
David Perdue, the U.S. ambassador to China, revealed that Trump posed the question during a private conversation with Xi Jinping, an unusual offer that could significantly alter U.S.-China relations and potentially expose sensitive technology to a potential adversary.
Perdue emphasized that Trump has consistently supported Taiwan’s defense capabilities, stating that the president has sold the island numerous weapons over the years. However, the potential sale of U.S. arms to China raises concerns about the implications for regional security and international relations.
