POLICY WIRE — Washington, D.C. — A gas station chain that received commendation from Donald Trump for its reduced fuel prices is now embroiled in controversy. A recent lawsuit alleges that the company sold gasoline that its supplier had not paid for.
The lawsuit, filed by Georgia-based Mansfield Oil Company, claims that KRSM Inc, which supplied several stations in the Freedom Fuel Network, acquired 1.1 million gallons of fuel worth approximately $4 million from a Sunoco terminal but failed to settle the invoice.
Mansfield Oil asserts that KRSM distributed a portion of this unpaid fuel to its stations within the Freedom Fuel Network, enabling them to sell the fuel at prices lower than their competitors. The suit further alleges that KRSM’s ability to offer such low prices and attract publicity was due to the fact that it never compensated Mansfield Oil for the fuel.
KRSM has refuted the allegations, characterizing the case as an accounting disagreement over misplaced fuel invoices by Mansfield Oil. The company declined to provide further comments on the ongoing litigation.
Earlier this year, Trump lauded the Freedom Fuel Network on Truth Social for its patriotic gesture of lowering gas prices ahead of the Fourth of July weekend. The White House subsequently shared a video on YouTube featuring Freedom Fuel customers expressing their gratitude to the president for the reduced prices.
