Thailand Launches Probe into Clinic After British Influencer Dies Post-Procedure

POLICY WIRE — Bangkok, Thailand — Thai authorities have launched an investigation into a clinic in the capital following the death of a British influencer who collapsed hours after receiving a penile filler injection.

Igho Ubiribo, a 43-year-old British-Nigerian social media personality known online as “Denisi” or Ego, passed away in Bangkok on March 6, according to records from a UK coroner’s inquest. The incident has triggered a formal inquiry by the Ministry of Public Health into the clinic where the procedure took place.

The health ministry confirmed that officials are examining the clinic in Pathumwan district and the medical treatment Ubiribo received. Health Minister Pattana Phromphat emphasized the need for caution in medical procedures and stated the probe aims to ensure safety for both local and international patients. The clinic remains unnamed, but investigators visited the site to assess its compliance with health standards.

According to the clinic, Ubiribo had been undergoing penile enlargement treatments since 2024, with five procedures completed before his final visit on March 5. He reportedly received 40ml of hyaluronic acid filler during the fifth session, though he allegedly opted for a single injection rather than splitting it into two sessions as advised. The couple was on a luxury trip in Thailand when the procedure occurred, and Ubiribo later experienced chest pain during a massage, leading to his collapse.

A post-mortem and toxicology report found that Ubiribo died from complications related to the filler injection and a pulmonary embolism. Doctors attempted resuscitation for over 100 minutes but were unable to revive him. The case will now be reviewed by the Medical Council of Thailand to determine if professional standards were met.
