Surviving Idaho Murder Roommate Seeks Face Blurring After Nine Relocations and Harassment
A survivor of the Idaho student killings moves to blur her face in police footage, citing years of threats and nine moves to escape harassment.
POLICY WIRE — Moscow, Idaho — A survivor of the high-profile 2022 University of Idaho student murders has petitioned the court to have her identity obscured in upcoming investigative video releases. According to recent legal filings in Latah County, the woman claims that years of relentless harassment and baseless accusations have forced her and her family to move nine different times.
Dylan Mortensen, who famously reported seeing a masked individual with a ski mask and bushy eyebrows inside the home on the night of the attacks, stated that the tragedy has transformed her life in unimaginable ways. In an affidavit filed on October 29, she described how the constant hostility and attention directed at her have impacted nearly every facet of her daily existence.
Bryan Kohberger was sentenced to life in prison last year after pleading guilty to the November 13, 2022 stabbings that devastated the community of Moscow. While Kohberger is currently attempting to withdraw his plea, no clear motive for the massacre has been established, and it remains unknown why Mortensen and one other roommate were left alive.
The request for privacy follows an order by Judge Megan Marshall to release records following a lawsuit filed by the documentary production company EWU Media. In support of her motion to intervene in the proceedings, Mortensen asked the judge to ensure her face is blurred in all body camera footage, police interviews, and other investigative materials made public.
