POLICY WIRE — Madrid, Spain — Luis de la Fuente has secured a six-year contract extension with the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF), ensuring his leadership of the national team through the 2032 European Championship.

The deal, finalized during a board meeting at the RFEF’s Ciudad del Futbol training complex in Madrid, marks the longest tenure ever granted to a Spain head coach. It will see De la Fuente guide the team through the 2028 Euros, 2030 World Cup, and 2032 Euros.

De la Fuente, who took charge in December 2022 following Spain’s underwhelming performance in the Qatar World Cup, has led the team to three major titles: the 2023 Nations League, the 2024 European Championship, and the 2026 World Cup. The only loss came in the 2025 Nations League, where Spain fell to Portugal on penalties. His tenure has also seen the national team achieve a record 38-match unbeaten streak.
