POLICY WIRE — Detroit, USA — Six workers were rushed to the hospital following an incident involving stage equipment at Ed Sheeran’s concert at Detroit’s Ford Field.
The accident occurred on Saturday night as crews were dismantling the stage after Sheeran’s performance. Heavy equipment lost control and struck several workers inside the stadium.
One affected worker, who was hit in the chest, described the incident as happening in a split second. He was kept in the hospital overnight before being released on Sunday.
Emergency services were dispatched to the stadium around 11 p.m. Saturday in response to what was initially reported as a “forklift injury accident.” The workers were near a ramp in a vehicle tunnel when the equipment malfunctioned.
All six workers were transported to nearby hospitals. While two had serious injuries, the other four were in stable condition. None of the injuries were life-threatening.
A spokesperson for Ford Field confirmed that the incident involved six workers, including a member of the stadium’s team. The stadium has initiated a comprehensive review and is collaborating with relevant authorities and production partners.

“Ford Field has begun a full review and is cooperating with the appropriate authorities and with the event’s production partners,” the stadium stated. “Out of respect for the people involved and the integrity of that review, we will not speculate on the cause. We are grateful to the Detroit Fire Department and EMS for their rapid response.”
The specific equipment involved and the cause of the accident remain unclear. Sheeran was in Detroit for a single performance as part of his Loop tour.
