Serbian Officer Kills Knife-Wielding Attacker Outside Israeli Embassy in Belgrade
A knife-wielding assailant was shot dead after attacking a Serbian police officer at the Israeli Embassy in Belgrade. Authorities label it a terror attack.
POLICY WIRE — Belgrade, Serbia — A member of the Serbian Gendarmerie was targeted in a knife attack early Wednesday morning while standing guard at the Israeli Embassy in Belgrade. The assailant, who was armed with two knives, was shot and killed by the officer at the scene shortly after midnight.
Outgoing Interior Minister Ivica Dacic confirmed the incident, characterizing the assault as a terrorist attack. Dacic stated that the attacker was a minor, believed to be from the town of Šabac, who shouted “Allahu Akbar” before charging the officer.
In response to the violence, Serbian authorities have elevated the national terrorism threat level to its highest point. The identity of the minor remains under investigation as officials process the scene of the attack.
This incident mirrors a previous security breach at the same diplomatic facility in June 2024. During that event, an individual armed with a crossbow wounded a Serbian police officer before being fatally shot by security personnel.
