Russian Tu-22M3 Bombers Conduct Planned Baltic Sea Flight as NATO Intercepts
Russian strategic bombers complete a scheduled flight over the Baltic Sea accompanied by fighter jets as NATO forces scramble to intercept the aircraft.
POLICY WIRE — Moscow, Russia — Russian long-range strategic bombers carried out a routine operational flight above international waters in the Baltic Sea, according to state-run news agencies citing the nation’s military leadership.
The mission involved two supersonic Tu-22M3 aircraft from the Russian Aerospace Forces, which remained airborne for over four hours during the deployment.
Approximately 10 fighter jets, including Su-30SM and Su-35S aircraft, accompanied the larger bombers and provided alternating escorts at various stages of the route.
At the same time, NATO forces responded by intercepting the Russian strategic bombers and accompanying fighter jets as they traveled across the eastern flank airspace on Monday.
The simultaneous presence of Russian and NATO military aircraft unfolded over neutral maritime territory, highlighting heightened aerial activity in the region.
