POLICY WIRE — Kyiv, Ukraine — A Russian drone struck a train near the Ukraine-Poland border on Sunday, shortly after senior visiting officials, including former UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson and Swedish PM Carl Bildt, had passed through the area, according to Ukrainian state rail operator Ukrzaliznytsia.

The diplomatic train carrying Johnson, Bildt, and security advisers from several EU states had left the Yahodyn station ahead of schedule, likely to avoid potential attacks, Ukrzaliznytsia said. The visitors were returning from a security conference in Kyiv.

Bildt shared a video on X showing the attack at Yahodyn station, near the Polish border crossing. He noted that the train struck was minutes behind his own. No injuries were reported, and the train was evacuated as the drone approached. Johnson criticized the attack, calling it a senseless act against civilians.
