The Bourbon virus, for which there’s currently no vaccine or treatment, is often misdiagnosed due to its similarity to other tick-borne illnesses.
The discovery was made following a series of tests on ticks collected from various regions. “The Bourbon virus is extremely rare, but its potential to cause severe illness makes it a significant public health concern,” said Dr. Jane Smith, lead researcher on the project. “We urge the public to take precautions against tick bites to minimize the risk of infection.”
