POLICY WIRE — Rawalpindi, Pakistan — A duty magistrate in Rawalpindi has extended the physical remand of Hina Javed’s husband and domestic servant for an additional three days to allow for further investigation into her murder.
Hina Javed, a 45-year-old digital media executive, was discovered deceased with her hands bound behind her back in a Rawalpindi apartment. The police reported signs of torture on her body and formed a special investigation team, detaining her husband and domestic servant while also questioning her father-in-law.
The suspects were presented before Duty Magistrate Rana Shah Nawaz after the completion of their initial three-day remand. Although the police requested an additional seven days of custody, the magistrate granted an extension of three days for continued investigation.
Shah Khawar, the advocate representing the deceased’s family, stated that the investigation is progressing well, with the police having collected evidence and conducted a forensic examination. The postmortem revealed that Hina’s hyoid bone was broken, and torture marks were found on her body.
On Tuesday, the special investigation team transported the suspects to Lahore for DNA and polygraph tests under heavy security. Following the tests, the suspects were returned to Rawalpindi and presented before the duty magistrate’s court.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Operations Tariq Mehboob recorded statements from the two suspects, who admitted that they had dragged Hina’s body into the bathroom and tied her neck with wire to simulate a suicide, a claim that was debunked by the police upon their arrival at the scene.

Regional Police Officer Babar Sarfraz Alpa disclosed that the incident occurred on August 20. Initially, the police were informed that thieves had entered the house, but upon arrival, they found Hina’s body partially hanging from a shower rod in the bathroom.
A first information report (FIR) was filed on August 20 at the Civil Lines police station under Sections 302 (premeditated murder) and 34 (common intention) of the Pakistan Penal Code, based on a complaint from Hina’s brother, Fahad Javed, who accused his sister’s husband, his father, and their domestic servant of her murder.
