Rams Cut Kicker Harrison Mevis After Two Misses vs. Bills, Sign Blake Grupe
Rams cut kicker Harrison Mevis after two missed field goals against the Bills, signaling a change in special teams strategy as they sign Blake Grupe.
POLICY WIRE — Los Angeles, United States — The Los Angeles Rams have released placekicker Harrison Mevis following two missed field-goal attempts in an overtime loss to the Buffalo Bills, according to a source familiar with the decision.
The team is also set to sign former New Orleans Saints kicker Blake Grupe from the New York Jets’ practice squad. The move comes after Mevis struggled with consistency this season, missing four field goals through five games, the most in the NFL.
Head coach Sean McVay expressed frustration with the special teams unit, stating it cost the Rams the game. Mevis, who was signed mid-season last year, had a strong debut but has faltered this campaign. Grupe, a veteran with a recent solid performance, will now take over the kicking duties for the Rams.
