North Carolina Triumphs in Ireland: Belichick’s Second Season Kicks Off with 15-10 Victory Over TCU

TCU coach Sonny Dykes reflected on the game, noting, In hindsight, I wish we had opted for field goals, but at the time, going for the end zone seemed the right choice when the offense was not moving.

North Carolina’s defense, under Belichick’s guidance, effectively contained TCU’s offense, particularly in the second half where they allowed only 26 yards on the ground after a strong 111 yards by halftime.

The Tar Heels, who last season never led a Power Four opponent at halftime, took a 12-10 lead with a safety late in the first half. This was followed by Burrell’s 28-yard field goal in the second half, setting the final score at 15-10.

North Carolina and TCU will both have an open date before their respective home openers on September 12. The Tar Heels will host East Tennessee State, while TCU faces Grambling State.
