Noel Gallagher Warns Johnny Marr About His Guitar’s Fate During London Exhibition

POLICY WIRE — London, United Kingdom — Noel Gallagher, former Oasis guitarist, expressed concern over the care of Johnny Marr’s legendary instruments during a visit to an exhibition showcasing the musician’s collection in London.
Marr, 62, is parting with a significant portion of his prized guitars, which have played a key role in his celebrated career. The auction, titled Marr’s Guitars: The Johnny Marr Collection, will be held at Christie’s on September 17, featuring 111 items valued up to £150,000.
In a video shared by Christie’s, Gallagher and Marr examined several notable pieces, including a 1982 black Rickenbacker 330 Semi-Hollow Electric Guitar used to create hits like This Charming Man. Gallagher recalled borrowing it for Oasis’s 1994 single Supersonic, joking that he feared it might be damaged if left on the floor during a photo shoot.

The guitar is expected to fetch up to £80,000, while a red Gibson ES-355TDSV, originally bought by Sire Records founder Seymour Stein, could reach £150,000. Marr also highlighted the connection between his work and the Rickenbacker, while Gallagher joked that he chose his own red Gibson after seeing Marr perform on Top of the Pops.
The auction includes additional instruments such as a 1971 D-28 acoustic guitar and a Fender Stratocaster, along with memorabilia from The Smiths. Marr has pledged to donate all proceeds from 31 lots to charities including The Guide Dogs for the Blind Association and The National Autistic Society.
