Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores, were apprehended in a U.S. military operation in Caracas in January, following President Donald Trump’s prolonged campaign against his regime. The couple faces charges of conspiracy to commit narco-terrorism and importing cocaine into the U.S.
In a message shared on X, Maduro stated, I am sending these photos as a small gift to all my grandchildren, to the boys and girls, and to all the good people who love us. I want you to know that we are standing firm, with our hearts full of your love.
The images, showing Maduro in a gray tracksuit making peace signs, were timestamped June 25, a day after devastating earthquakes in Venezuela. Despite this, they were posted on social media on Sunday, leading to questions about how he managed to share them from U.S. custody.
Social media users expressed confusion and skepticism, with one user commenting, “So Maduro was able to post on social media while in U.S. custody? This is some weird s***,” and another questioning the authenticity of the photos.
The timing of the post, coming days after Trump announced an oil deal with Venezuela, further fueled speculation. One user remarked, “The first photo of Maduro emerges after his kidnapping, right just after the mega oil deal between the US and Venezuela, despite it being a photo from June 25. Coincidence or Causality?”

Maduro’s message comes two days after interim President Delcy Rodriguz announced a “historic” oil agreement allowing the U.S. to operate in Venezuela’s oil fields.
