Moonshot AI Issues Quota Refunds Following Kimi K3.1 Pro Launch Glitches
Moonshot AI apologizes for Kimi K3.1 Pro rate limits and quota depletion, offering a 25% usage reset to all subscribers after technical launch issues.
POLICY WIRE — Beijing, China — Moonshot AI issued a formal apology on Monday, October 26, following widespread reports of rate limiting and excessive quota consumption tied to the recent release of its Kimi K3.1 Pro model.
The Beijing-based artificial intelligence startup, established by Yang Zhilin, acknowledged that the launch of the K3.1 Pro on October 24 resulted in unexpected technical hurdles for its user base. Subscribers reported that their usage allowances were being depleted at an accelerated rate, prompting the company to address the imbalance between model performance and quota economics.
To rectify the situation, Moonshot AI announced via its official Kimi X account that it is providing a one-time quota reset for all paid subscribers. This adjustment restores 25% of the monthly usage allowance, which the company equates to approximately one week of service.
The company further clarified that users who had consumed less than 25% of their monthly allotment would have their usage reset to zero. Additionally, Moonshot AI has taken steps to reduce unnecessary sub-agent calls that contributed to the rapid depletion of user quotas.
