Miracle Pacific Rescue: Five Survivors Found 3,000 Miles from Home After 90 Days Lost
Five people including two children found alive in Kiribati after drifting for 100 days following a boat trip that went wrong in Micronesia.
POLICY WIRE — Kiribati, South Pacific — A group of five individuals who vanished during a brief maritime excursion has been discovered alive nearly three months later on a remote island thousands of miles away from their starting point.
The survivors, consisting of three adults and two children, spent approximately 100 days adrift on a small 20-foot skiff after what was intended to be a routine short journey.
According to authorities, the vessel originally departed on July 30, 2026, with nine people on board. The group was attempting a one-hour crossing between the islands of Murilo and Ruo when they encountered a severe storm.
After the boat failed to arrive at its destination, a search was initiated, but the group had already drifted more than 3,000 miles across the Pacific Ocean.
Details emerging from the ordeal describe a harrowing struggle for survival on the tiny craft until they reached the shores of the island nation of Kiribati.
The survivors were reportedly aided by hearing the sound of church bells, which led them toward a local town and eventual assistance.
