Met Office Warns UK as Consecutive Storms Strike Country Within 24 Hours
Met Office names the second storm to hit the UK within 24 hours as severe weather brings heavy rain, 90mph gusts, and widespread flood alerts.
POLICY WIRE — London, United Kingdom — The Met Office has announced that the second named storm of the season is on track to strike the UK on Saturday. Storm Boelo is anticipated to primarily impact northern regions throughout the weekend.
Earlier weather systems are already sweeping across the country, with Storm Austen tracking from west to east through Friday before winds begin to ease later in the day. Rainfall remains a significant hazard alongside the winds, bringing 20 to 30 millimeters of precipitation to numerous locations and potentially higher totals over elevated terrain in the west and further north.
Meanwhile, Britain braces for Storm Bram starting tonight, which threatens to unleash up to four inches of rain and 90mph gusts over the coming days. Western areas of the UK will bear the brunt of these conditions, prompting the Met Office to issue amber and yellow warnings for wind and rain effective from 6pm today until Wednesday.
Authorities warn that flooding could inundate homes and properties in vulnerable zones, with a combined 75 flood alerts currently in place. The season has already seen four named storms, beginning with Storm Amy in October 2026 and concluding recently with Storm Dave in April 2026.
Although meteorologists utilized only four names from their official list this season, the UK also experienced impacts from three separate storms named by other European meteorological agencies.
