Malaysia: Swift Guard Action Thwarts Bank Robbery Attempt
A security guard in Malaysia prevented a robbery by locking US$20,000 inside an armoured van, thwarting a would-be thief.
POLICY WIRE — Klang, Malaysia — An attempted bank robbery in Malaysia was successfully thwarted when a security guard swiftly secured 82,000 ringgit (US$20,000) inside an armoured van, preventing any cash from being stolen.
The incident occurred at approximately 5:30 PM on Monday while security personnel were transferring cash into the van in Bandar Bukit Tinggi, Klang. Selangor police chief Commissioner Shazeli Kahar provided details on the event.
According to Commissioner Kahar, a man wearing a dark jacket and a motorcycle helmet approached one of the guards and threatened him with an object. However, the guard’s quick actions ensured that the cash was locked inside the van, foiling the robbery attempt.
“The guard’s prompt response was crucial in securing the cash — and preventing any loss,” Commissioner Kahar stated. “We’re currently investigating the incident — and reviewing security footage to identify the suspect.”
No injuries were reported during the incident, — and the cash remains secure. Authorities are urging anyone with information about the suspect to come forward to aid in the investigation.
