Maine’s Mr. Halloween Set to Distribute 14,000 King-Sized Candy Bars in Lewiston
Discover how Maine's Mr. Halloween is handing out 14,000 king-sized candy bars in Lewiston, continuing a beloved 30-year holiday tradition.
POLICY WIRE — Lewiston, United States — Peter Geiger, widely celebrated as Mr. Halloween, is preparing to distribute upwards of 14,000 king-sized candy bars on Saturday at his local business in Lewiston, Maine.
This massive giveaway marks the continuation of a holiday custom spanning more than 30 years for the 70-year-old former Farmers’ Almanac editor, who recently sold the publication earlier this year to New York-based Farmers’ Almanac LLC.
To heighten the festive atmosphere, the 70-year-old organizer is expanding his display with additional inflatable monsters, spooky characters, and a brand-new bubble machine making its debut this year, as he shared with WMTW.
The scale of the massive candy distribution is supported in part by a donation from Maine department store Reny’s.
However, securing the treat requires a trick, as participants must correctly provide a secret password that Geiger is scheduled to announce on Friday.
The annual event has evolved into a staple Halloween tradition for families residing throughout the Lewiston-Auburn area, situated in central-southern Maine, with attractions and candy quantities expanding annually.
Geiger explained to WMTW that the celebration has grown into a major community event in Lewiston and Auburn, noting his desire to maximize the fun for attending families who arrive laughing and dressed in diverse costumes.
The scale of the gathering has steadily increased over recent years, following a 2024 distribution of 8,260 king-sized candy bars and last year’s event which featured 10,000 king-sized bars, 8,500 mini bars placed in a witch cauldron, upwards of 35 mechanical and inflatable creatures, a DJ distributing extra sweets, and three five-pound chocolate bars given to the 1,000th, 2,000th, and 3,000th visitors.
