Breaking: L.A. news helicopter crash kills 3, Fed to decide on rate hike, Kennedy Center votes to close after legal battle.
POLICY WIRE — Los Angeles, United States — A news helicopter operated by NBC Los Angeles crashed in Chatsworth late yesterday, killing the pilot and a photojournalist on board, as well as one person on the ground. The incident occurred while the aircraft was covering a fatal bus collision earlier that evening.
The crash took place near a self-storage facility in the San Fernando Valley, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department. The helicopter, which belonged to Angel City Air, lost contact with its crew just before 7 p.m. The station confirmed the tragedy shortly after, identifying the victims as aerial photojournalist Eliana Moreno and pilot George Marciniw, who had worked together since 2023.
Meanwhile, the Federal Reserve is set to announce whether it will raise its key interest rate amid persistent inflation concerns. Wall Street analysts anticipate a potential rate increase, though former President Donald Trump has publicly called for a cut. In another development, the Kennedy Center board voted to close the performing arts center following a federal court ruling that rejected their attempt to add Trump’s name to the building’s exterior. The board cited severe structural issues and warned of possible bankruptcy.
