Kennedy Center Denies Demolition Claims as Trump Warns of ‘Ripped Down’ Fate
Kennedy Center says no demolition, but Trump claims it could be ripped down. New evidence emerges in ongoing legal battle.
POLICY WIRE — Washington, D.C. — The Kennedy Center has denied reports of any demolition work at the iconic performing arts complex, despite a viral image showing President Donald Trump reviewing a document titled ‘Kennedy Center Demolished.’ The center’s leadership insists that no structures are being torn down, while Trump has repeatedly warned that the facility could face destruction if not properly funded.
A witness testified in court documents that a forklift struck the building’s pillars during recent activity, prompting concerns over potential damage. Meanwhile, the Justice Department confirmed a one-week closure of the center, citing safety risks due to structural issues. The decision is separate from a board vote to close the site for renovations, which remains under judicial review.
The dispute escalated after a federal judge ruled that Trump’s name cannot be added to the Kennedy Center. Shortly afterward, the board—dominated by Trump allies—approved a renovation closure. Congress allocated over $250 million for restoration, but the legality of the vote is still pending. Trump, meanwhile, suggested that his administration’s involvement would be necessary to prevent the center from being “ripped down.”
