Johnson-Thompson, a heptathlon star, cited a recent injury as the reason for her withdrawal. “It’s with great regret that I must withdraw from the Games this year. My recovery is ongoing, — and I need to prioritize my health,” she stated.
Dina Asher-Smith, a sprinter who was expected to compete in multiple events, also announced her withdrawal. “After careful consideration — and discussion with my team, I’ve decided not to participate this year. I wish all the athletes the best of luck,” Asher-Smith said.
Matthew Hudson-Smith, another sprinter, and Daryll Neita, who was set to compete in the 100m and 200m events, have also pulled out. Hudson-Smith mentioned personal reasons for his withdrawal, while Neita hasn’t specified the cause of her absence.
