NASCAR race at Talladega halted after a massive 15-car pileup sends Joey Logano's car flipping through the air. Read the latest on the driver's safety.
POLICY WIRE — Talladega, USA — A high-stakes NASCAR Cup Series event at Talladega Superspeedway was brought to a sudden halt on Sunday, October 25, 2026, after a violent multi-car collision left three-time champion Joey Logano’s vehicle airborne and inverted.
The incident occurred with only five laps remaining in the race. Logano, who was running in fourth position, lost control of his No. 22 Ford following a push from Carson Hocevar. The resulting chain reaction triggered a 15-car pileup on the frontstretch, involving drivers such as Chase Briscoe, Brad Keselowski, Austin Cindric, and Josh Berry. Riley Herbst was also caught in the chaos, appearing to lose his brakes before striking the inside wall at high speed.
Emergency crews worked for several minutes to right Logano’s car, which had landed on its roof. To the relief of the crowd, the driver was able to exit the vehicle under his own power. Logano later remarked that the experience was reminiscent of a scene from the film Talladega Nights, noting that he was grateful for the safety team’s swift response.
Herbst, who had previously suffered a concussion earlier in the season, was assisted from his car by safety personnel. Despite sustaining injuries to his hand and wrist, he remained in good spirits, joking that if one is going to be dumb, one better be tough. Logano, who has been vocal about safety concerns regarding airborne crashes in the past, praised the structural integrity of his car and the recent safety improvements implemented by NASCAR.
