JoAnna Mendoza Ousts Republican Juan Ciscomani in Key Arizona House Flip
Democrat JoAnna Mendoza defeats incumbent Juan Ciscomani in Arizona's 6th District, securing a vital House seat victory for Democrats.
POLICY WIRE — PHOENIX, Arizona — Democratic candidate JoAnna Mendoza has secured a major victory in Arizona’s 6th Congressional District, successfully flipping the House seat to the Democratic party.
Mendoza, a retired Marine, defeated the two-term Republican incumbent Juan Ciscomani in a highly contested battle located in the southeastern swing district.
The Associated Press officially called the race for Mendoza, following a competitive campaign where Ciscomani was seen to implicitly concede his defeat.
The Democratic party had focused on Ciscomani’s seat since he first won it in 2022, reclaiming a position that had previously been held by a Democrat.
Ciscomani had narrowly survived a rematch in 2024, winning his re-election by a margin of only three points.
This win marks a significant gain for Democrats, who have captured at least two seats within the Grand Canyon State during this election cycle.
