JetBlue CEO Dismisses Restructuring Rumors Amid Bond Market Volatility
JetBlue CEO Joanna Geraghty confirms no creditor talks are underway, addressing investor concerns following a significant selloff in airline bonds.
POLICY WIRE — New York, USA — JetBlue Airways Chief Executive Joanna Geraghty stated on Tuesday that the airline is not engaged in discussions with creditors and has no plans to restructure its debt.
The clarification comes as the company works to stabilize investor confidence following a dramatic decline in the value of its bonds. Market participants have expressed growing anxiety regarding the airline’s ability to finance its ongoing turnaround strategy without seeking a renegotiation of its financial obligations.
Currently, JetBlue carries approximately $8.4 billion in debt and finance lease obligations. The CEO’s remarks follow recent reports that a group of creditors has retained restructuring advisers PJT Partners and Akin Gump.
Financial pressure on the carrier remains evident, with the company reporting that its net loss for the first nine months of the year has nearly doubled to $823 million. The airline continues to navigate a challenging fiscal environment as it manages fuel cost estimates for the upcoming 12-month period.
