Japanese Households Remain Optimistic About Future Price Increases, BOJ Reports
88.6% of Japanese households expect prices to rise in a year, according to the latest Bank of Japan survey.
POLICY WIRE — Tokyo, Japan — A recent quarterly survey by the Bank of Japan revealed that 88.6% of households anticipate rising prices over the next year, marking a slight decline from 90.4% in the previous poll.
The data, released on Tuesday, also showed that 86.5% of respondents foresee higher costs five years from now, an increase from 86.1% recorded in June. This shift suggests a growing awareness of long-term economic trends among consumers.
The findings highlight ongoing concerns about inflation, with households showing less confidence in a return to pre-pandemic price stability. The survey underscores the broader economic sentiment shaping consumer behavior and expectations in Japan.
