Indonesia Stock Exchange to Remove 80 Concentrated Stocks from Benchmark Index
The Indonesia Stock Exchange will exclude 80 stocks with high shareholding concentration from the Jakarta Composite Index starting November 2, 2026.
POLICY WIRE — Jakarta, Indonesia — The Indonesia Stock Exchange (IDX) has announced a major regulatory shift that will see 80 stocks removed from the Jakarta Composite Index (JCI) beginning November 2, 2026.
These specific equities, currently classified under the High Shareholding Concentration (HSC) category, represent approximately 18 percent of the total weight of the nation’s primary capital market benchmark.
IDX President Director Jeffrey Hendrik stated that the policy is designed to bolster market transparency and integrity. The exchange aims to ensure that the JCI provides a more accurate reflection of actual market dynamics following increased scrutiny regarding trading conditions.
The decision follows discussions with index provider MSCI, which had previously raised concerns regarding index eligibility and potential market manipulation. MSCI had been weighing a possible downgrade of the market prior to this intervention.
As part of the new transparency measures, the exchange will now require the disclosure of whether shareholders holding at least 1 percent of a listed company maintain affiliations with other shareholders. This move is intended to create a more credible and integrity-driven price index for investors.
