Huawei-Backed Yinwang Partners with CATL to Advance EV Battery Swapping
Huawei-affiliated Yinwang Intelligent Technology joins forces with CATL to integrate battery-swapping services into its smart electric vehicle ecosystem.
POLICY WIRE — Beijing, China — Yinwang Intelligent Technology, the smart vehicle enterprise backed by Huawei, announced on Monday that it has entered into a formal cooperation agreement with CATL and its specialized battery-swapping subsidiary, Shidai Dianfu.
This strategic partnership integrates Yinwang—also known as Newcool—into CATL’s Choco ecosystem. The collaboration aims to bridge the gap between advanced smart driving capabilities and efficient energy replenishment services for electric vehicle users.
For CATL, which saw its shares hit a one-year low in September, the framework agreement represents a critical effort to secure automotive partners. As vehicle manufacturers remain a scarce and vital input for the battery giant, this deal serves to bolster its market position.
If the initiative proceeds as planned, Epicland is expected to become one of the inaugural brands within Huawei’s automotive ecosystem to pilot battery-swapping technology. Industry interest is growing, with Seres-backed Aiva also reportedly in discussions with CATL regarding similar public network solutions.
The agreement outlines a broader commitment from CATL to support Huawei’s smart connected EV production by developing and supplying high-power automotive batteries. This follows a separate announcement from CATL regarding a partnership with Chery to provide batteries for a diverse range of transport, including passenger cars, electric buses, heavy trucks, and maritime vessels.
