How Family Tragedy and Political Divides Shattered the Harp Siblings
Family tragedy and political rifts divided Natalie and Preston Harp, pushing one toward MAGA and the other to radical left ideologies.
POLICY WIRE — City, Country — The Harp siblings, Natalie and Preston, have been separated by both personal loss and stark ideological differences. Their father’s death in 2020 deepened the rift between them, with Natalie aligning closely with former President Donald Trump while Preston has embraced leftist politics, even relocating to Nicaragua.
Preston Harp, 38, revealed to The Washington Post that the family fell apart after a dispute over how to handle their father Bob Harp’s cause of death. He wanted to share the truth, but his sister and mother preferred to keep it private, leading to a lasting estrangement. Bob Harp, 61, died by suicide in July 2020, and the disagreement over revealing the details intensified tensions within the family.
Natalie Harp, 35, who survived cancer, became a key White House aide to Trump and has since become deeply embedded in the MAGA movement. She delivered a speech at the 2020 Republican National Convention, crediting Trump for saving her life. Meanwhile, Preston has grown more radicalized, expressing admiration for the Sandinistas, a Marxist group in Nicaragua. He said he is willing to die for their cause, calling martyrdom the most honorable way to go.
