POLICY WIRE — Hong Kong — One month after the introduction of Hong Kong’s dog-friendly dining scheme, restaurateurs are reporting a noticeable uptick in business. Ken Chu Ka-chun, owner of Asura group, noted a 20% increase in revenue at one of his outlets located in Kai Tak Sports Park.
“We saw more dog owners coming in because people frequently walk their dogs around here,” said Chu, whose group operates two restaurants with pet-friendly licenses.
The government initiative, launched on July 9, allows dogs in nearly 1,000 establishments across the city. Participating restaurants have implemented separate seating areas to accommodate diners with pets.
