Hong Kong Commerce Chief to Lead Trade Delegation to Malaysia

POLICY WIRE — Hong Kong — Hong Kong’s Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development, Algernon Yau Ying-wah, is set to lead a joint delegation of mainland Chinese and local firms to Malaysia next week. The mission aims to strengthen business ties — and explore new market opportunities.

Yau noted that approximately 200 enterprises from mainland China have established offices in Hong Kong since last year, using the city as a gateway for global expansion. “Hong Kong serves as a vital bridge for Chinese companies looking to enter international markets,” Yau stated.

In addition to Malaysia, Hong Kong is eyeing emerging markets in Africa following successful forays into the Middle East and Central Asia. Yau emphasized the city’s strategic approach amid ongoing geopolitical tensions. “We’re committed to diversifying our trade partnerships — and exploring new horizons for economic growth,” he said.

The delegation’s visit to Malaysia is expected to focus on sectors such as technology, finance, and manufacturing, with the aim of fostering collaboration and investment between the two regions.
