HBO’s ‘Girls’ to Return with New Episodes After Seven-Year Hiatus
HBO confirms revival of Lena Dunham's 'Girls' with five new episodes. Fans excited for return of original cast.
POLICY WIRE — New York, United States — HBO Max has confirmed that the critically acclaimed series ‘Girls,’ created by and starring Lena Dunham, will return for a limited run of five new episodes after a seven-year hiatus since its final season in 2017.
The revival will bring back Dunham alongside her co-stars Allison Williams, Jemima Kirke, Zosia Mamet, and Andrew Rannells. However, Adam Driver, who played Dunham’s on-and-off boyfriend, is not listed among the returning cast members at this time.
Dunham revealed in a recent Substack post that the idea of revisiting the show was once unthinkable, comparing it to a glacier she had sailed away from. She later reflected on how turning forty helped shift her perspective, as well as the emotional distance she felt from the character Hannah Horvath. The writer also shared that she has a plot in mind for the new episodes and expressed excitement about working with her original cast, whom she calls her muses.
