Check your local Halloween weather forecast. From potential flash floods in Texas to mild East Coast conditions, see what to expect for trick-or-treating.
POLICY WIRE — Washington, USA — Families across the United States are preparing for Halloween festivities, but weather conditions are expected to vary significantly depending on the region. While many areas will enjoy mild temperatures, others may face disruptive rain and storm activity throughout the holiday weekend.
AccuWeather meteorologists have issued warnings for the South and Midwest, where heavy rainfall and thunderstorms are anticipated between Thursday and Saturday. Expert meteorologist Tyler Roys noted that families in Texas should remain particularly vigilant regarding outdoor plans due to the potential for severe weather.
Moisture originating from Tropical Storm Vance is projected to drop two to four inches of rain across parts of Texas. Roys cautioned that this influx of water poses a serious flash flood risk, especially in drought-stricken regions where the hardened ground is unable to absorb heavy precipitation quickly.
The Gulf Coast and Florida are bracing for unseasonably warm and humid conditions. Sarasota-based meteorologist Ric Kearbey suggested that the weather may feel more like summer than late October, with spotty showers expected to persist across the Florida Peninsula.
In Southern California, residents can expect a gradual cooldown as temperatures settle into the 60s and 70s. KTLA meteorologist Kirk Hawkins indicated that while the Los Angeles area faces only a 20 percent chance of rain, the region will experience a noticeable shift in climate.
The Pacific Northwest and Intermountain West are trending much colder, with temperatures in states like Oregon, Washington, Montana, Idaho, and Wyoming expected to hover in the 30s and 40s. Senior meteorologist Alex Sosnowski warned that tropical moisture could trigger flash flooding, river rises, and debris flows in Arizona, Utah, New Mexico, and Colorado through early next week.
Midwestern cities including Chicago, Des Moines, and Minneapolis are likely to see rain on Friday, which may impact local Beggars’ Night celebrations. Despite the precipitation, temperatures in the region are expected to remain temperate, with highs reaching the 60s.
Conversely, the Eastern United States is looking at favorable conditions for trick-or-treaters. Forecasters expect dry, cloudy skies and comfortable highs in the 60s throughout the Mid-Atlantic and East Coast, a welcome change following recent bouts of summer-like rain.
